Research Shows That PeopleSoft Training Increases Productivity by 20 Percent

PLEASANTON, CA  (March 22, 2004) --PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq:PSFT -News) today announced the findings of a training research study involving more than 13,000 PeopleSoft® users. The independent research audit, conducted by Knowledge Advisors, a learning analytics company, found that PeopleSoft user productivity improved by an average of 20 percent after completing a PeopleSoft training class.

Knowledge Advisors' research was conducted from September 2003 to January 2004. More than 13,000 PeopleSoft users were surveyed immediately following the completion of training courses, and then again 60 days later. Along with the user productivity findings, the training evaluation concluded the following:

  • Respondents stated that "cycle time" improved by an average of 24 percent.
  • Respondents stated that "quality" improved by an average of 22 percent.
  • More than 90 percent of the respondents agree that PeopleSoft education is a worthwhile investment for their employer.

DePaul University recently enrolled more than 40 of its employees into PeopleSoft's software education courses. "We're excited by the initial results of the survey and see great value in being able to link PeopleSoft's education courses to an increase in employee productivity," said Joseph Cummings, information services director, DePaul University. "Taking our entire user base into account, the potential business impact is astonishing and will help reduce the Total Cost of Ownership of the University's system. We applaud PeopleSoft for continuing to invest in training programs for its customers."

Well targeted training is a real insurance policy for enabling new technologies and business processes," said Michael Brennan, learning services analyst with IDC. "PeopleSoft clients have indicated that education helps them benefit from their investments."

"Increasing an employee's productivity by 20 percent is equivalent to giving an extra day of work back to that employee," said Bill Henry, vice president of strategy and marketing, PeopleSoft Global Services. "The survey's findings demonstrate that training significantly increases employee productivity and directly impacts bottom-line results."

PeopleSoft ROI for Training

Recognizing the need to quantify the business value associated with training, PeopleSoft announced the PeopleSoft ROI for Training solution in December of 2003. The solution helps companies build a business case for training by identifying ROI metrics that correspond to an organization's unique business process improvements. In addition, the tool provides customers with instant ROI calculations that estimate revenue, attrition, cycle times, productivity, and potential cost reductions from a PeopleSoft education program. It also enables customers to apply key tracking indicators to measure return on investment throughout the project.

Since the roll out of PeopleSoft's training research program, more than 13,000 evaluations have been completed by 705 client organizations.
